Andy has invited three of his veterinary colleagues to assist with telling his story, each of whom have achieved great success in their careers and have utilized many of the principles discussed in The Prosperous Veterinarian along their own journeys.
Dr. Welser joined CityVet in May 2023 and serves in the role of Chief Strategy Officer. She previously served as the Global Chief Medical Officer at Mars Veterinary Health. She also served clinically and in senior leadership at BluePearl Veterinary Partners, founded Veterinary Eye Specialist, and has worked in a variety of clinical roles as a boarded veterinary ophthalmologist.
Dr. Welser also successfully licensed and sold a therapeutic nutritional supplement to a global veterinary pharmaceutical company. Her educational background includes a BA in Biology and French from the University of Vermont and a DVM from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Welser joined CityVet because she believes deeply in the culture and the unique shared ownership model with a support system. She is passionate that the model leads to rewarding and sustainable careers for veterinary teams, as well as exceptional, personalized experiences for clients and the highest quality treatment for pets.
Dr. Chip Cannon opened CityVet’s first veterinary practice in 1999 with a goal to serve people by helping them care for their pets. With a loyal team of like-minded and warm-hearted pet lovers, CityVet’s early success fueled the development of a system to better serve pet owners who value high-quality care. That is coupled with transparency and choice and delivered with high standards for customer service from a team that truly cares about pets and people too.
This client-centric model is now empowered with a purpose to keep veterinarians at the core of pet care and providing them with the opportunity to build and own their own practice within this CityVet system, which has become an integral part of the CityVet’s mission.
Chip is a graduate of Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine. He and his wife Leah have four daughters, two Labrador mixes–Trent and Rugger–and two Aussie mixes–Samson and Macleay.
Dr. Brent Mayabb is currently the Global Chief Medical Officer for Royal Canin. He joined Royal Canin US in May 2004 as a Technical Service Veterinarian, and he has had experience across many parts of the business, including responsibilities in communications, public relations, learning and development, and government affairs. Prior to joining Royal Canin, Brent worked in general small animal practice, and he continues to do relief work in the community clinic of a local animal shelter.
Outside of veterinary medicine, very early in his career Brent developed an interest in personal finance and investing. Having experienced many of the financial challenges associated with the veterinary profession firsthand, he wants to help vets and vet techs by making personal finance more approachable. To help him educate others, Brent recently completed master’s degree in the area of financial planning.
